Introduction

Hi There! My name is John, I work with the AYS Moderation Team as a Senior Moderator. Where I was promoted to Sr. Moderator back in August of this year. So far I've been with AYS for almost 5 months now. At AYS, I am tasked with the duty of enforcing our Server Rules and Discord's Terms of Service on AYS. You may also see me out-and-about talking to different members of our community, and helping anyone that may have a question about their server, AYS, or the staff team. Within AYS, myself and the other Sr. Moderators are also tasked with handling reports from our members, and overall maintaining everyone's safety within AYS.

What motivated you to join AYS?

I originally joined AYS back in 2018, but then left after a short stay to focus on my life. I eventually joined back in 2020, due to me being able to have time and put more time into Discord. I had also missed the friends I had made at AYS, and I always think it is honestly a better choice I made to rejoin AYS. I had missed the culture of AYS, as well, especially being able to talk to those that hold a special place in AYS’ history, such as Jogn, Baguette, Cailee, and many others . I have seen in the past, others coming back to AYS due to them missing the culture and the atmosphere that AYS holds, I truly believe that no other Discord server can compare to AYS and it’s culture.

Can you share a memorable experience or project from your time at AYS?

Overall, when I received my promotion from Helper, to Jr. Moderator and then Sr. Moderator, it was what I believe is the best thing to ever happen to me here at AYS. Before my current tenure with the AYS Team, I had been up and down with my position in the AYS Team, in the past I had failed to meet certain standards of my position at AYS and that always caused me problems and caused the company problems.

πŸ’‘
How has your role evolved or changed since you first joined? How are you able to adjust to the continuously changing environment?

When I first joined the Moderation Team, I started as a helper, I was doing simple tasks and really just focusing on community engagement and getting to know things. Now, I have taken on so much more important roles for the community and the company, I am now more tasked with member safety and making sure the community stays safe. When it comes to adjusting to the ever-changing environment AYS and Discord is, it can be difficult at times, but here at AYS we are taught and well-instructed on how to overcome those challenges. Then again, other times those changes can be fun, due to never knowing what you will run into, everyday is a new day for a Sr. Moderator here at AYS. Discord has also changed the aspect and environment of moderating a Discord server, mostly with their new AutoMod system. Their new AutoMod system has helped us with moderating immensely more than we could have thought, mainly with their message deletion system.

What do you enjoy most about working at AYS?

Working at AYS is one of the most fun things that have happened to myself on Discord, the work community is honestly better than my real life job. No one is ever to shy to help another out, we always have each others back and we support each other through every step of the way. The Executive Team are also, ALWAYS there for us and are always ready to hear if we have input on AYS operations.

πŸ’‘
How do you stay motivated and continue to work hard as a Moderator?

What helps me stay motivated and continue my work at AYS is that everyday is going to be a new day and you never know what to expect. So, it really brings some entertaining situations that give you that slight morale boost or laugh you may have needed. It is also the lack of stress due to the size of our Moderation team that helps me with morale and to stay inspired to continue my work.

πŸ’‘
What advice/tips would you give to someone who wants to pursue a role as a Moderator at AYS or on discord?

Most importantly, if you wish to become a Moderator here at AYS or anywhere on Discord, engage with your community! Community engagement is one of the most important factors as a Moderator, when you engage with your members, you show them that you are there and can always be contacted if help is needed or something goes wrong within AYS. It is also important that when pursuing a position such as a Moderator, it is important to know the rules and regulations of the server you are in, and the Terms of Service for Discord itself, you can never be too informed on rules and ToS.

πŸ’‘
Can you share a fun fact about yourself that people might now know?

Well, I've got too much to share, but I used to be the mascot at my High School (2022-2023). I am 6'6" (tall, but not fun)

πŸ’‘
What are your future goals and aspirations at AYS?

Eventually here at AYS, I would like to become a Team Leader of our Moderation team, or any other team I am a part of. I also wish to see AYS succeed and prosper for many years to come. In previous servers, I had served as COO, Head Moderator, Chief of Staff, etc. With these experiences, I believe I would one day be able to work towards those goals and become more experienced and successful in AYS.

πŸ’‘
What are some challenges or barriers that you may face in your daily role?

Some challenges/barriers that may come with the job, as expected, is that we may once in a while getting hate from some members of our community. We would like to say, no matter the amount of hate or anger we get from our members, we will help them and support them through everything here at AYS. Other challenges we may face, as many others do, raids. Raids are a major problem we see on Discord and once in a while, AYS, thankfully we have our systems in place and our moderation team members who are more than capable of dealing with raids in a timely manner.

πŸ’‘
How do you manage a balance of your personal and professional life on Discord?

Depending on the person, it can very hard or very easy. Things that can really help, is always being able to DM that friend of yours on Discord, or being able to call them, and while doing so, also moderating AYS. In the end, I believe it comes down to a thing of responsibility, are you responsible enough to get your job done while also having a personal life.

πŸ’‘
Any finals thoughts or message you'd like to share with the AYS community?

I would like to share to the community that, you should 100% join our Moderation Staff and other staff departments! We could always use your support and time if you are willing to give it a try! If you would like to join our moderation team, please take a moment to fill out this form. We wish you the best of luck!

Unfortunately that'll be all for today's blog, and I'd like to go ahead and convey my sincere thanks to Joris, for their dedication and time spent on putting together these well thought answers, I'm sure the entirety of this audience found it intriguing. Next week on AYS, we interview one of our Sales Team Members, who's name is all too familiar on the AYS Blog... Till Next Week AYS!
